Ann Romney Rallies Conservatives Around Her Husband April 12, 2012
First of all, let's not kid ourselves. That picture on the left is the only photograph of Ann Romney that you need to see.
Now, on to the weightier matter.
An April 2nd article in Politico ran with the headline: "Ann Romney is the Romney Democrats fear most".
That headline was proven totally accurate today, as prominent Democrats fell over themselves trying to be the first to condemn Hilary Rosen's comments. Even the President got involved.
And today Noah Rothman has a similar article at Mediaite. Quoting Rothman:
Several weeks back, political commentators and analysts predicted that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's wife, Ann Romney, would be the campaign's ace in the hole. I recall thinking at the time, "well, I'll believe it when I see it." After Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen's inartful remarks about Ann Romney and the alacrity with which the Obama campaign mobilized to distance themselves from her remarks, I believe it. And you should too.
Okay, so we can all agree that the political Krakken has been released.
But there's an underreported, and very important, story here as well. Ann Romney has brought conservatives to her defense explicitly, and to the defense of her husband's campaign implicitly.
Have you noticed many tweets from conservatives criticizing Mitt Romney for being too liberal today? Me neither.
In fact this foot-in-mouth disease as exhibited by Hilary Rosen has conservatives more motivated than I have seen them in a long time. With one sentence, Rosen enabled Republicans to hoist the "war on women" mantra-chanting Democrats on their own petards.
And the timing couldn't be better, as the likelihood of Romney being the eventual nominee has moved to a practical certainty given that Santorum dropped out just a couple of days ago.
This is a great way for Republicans to start the general election season.
November, here we come.
