New Liberal Argument On Energy: Gas Prices Were Too Low In January '09

Well this should help them win plenty of elections.

Liberal web site Think Progress, in a lame attempt to debunk Rove's most recent anti-Obama commercial, makes an observation that only a liberal could love: "Gas prices were unusually low in January 2009."

And that's the real problem, isn't it? Gas prices were just too low when Dear Leader was inaugurated. And now that gas prices have skyrocketed, his otherwise glorious record of keeping unemployment above 8% for the longest period of time since The Great Depression is thoroughly besmirched.

This also explains why liberals are such big fans of Energy Secretary Steven Chu, who famously said that he wants our gas prices to triple, so that we pay about as much as they do in Europe.

And you gotta love their other argument as well: "The President is not to blame for rising gas prices." Hey, do you remember Think Progress making either of the following observations during 2008: "The President is not to blame for the real estate market crashing" or "The President is not to blame for Lehman Brothers failing". Yeah, me neither.

But that was the conventional wisdom, and they milked the "It's all Bush's fault" cow for all the milk they could get. They claimed that every economic problem that came out of the subprime mortgage crisis was Bush's fault because, thanks to timing, Bush happened to be President when it happened.

And now, to paraphrase the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, those chickens are coming home to roost. They wanted to lay the blame for all of our economic ills on the Executive Branch. Now they have to live it when their hero is in office and once again we are faced with a difficult economic problem which hurts middle class families.

You can't have it both ways, liberals. Either the President is responsible for the economy or he's not. Pick one.

But thanks for giving us another reason to miss President Bush.
